Most people decide within a few seconds whether to contact a business they have found online. They scan the name, the first two lines of the description, the location and the contact buttons. This guide explains how to make each part of your BizGrid.lk listing do its job.
Start the description with what you do and where
The first sentence is the most important. It should answer three questions: what do you sell or do, who is it for, and where do you operate? Compare these two openings:
- “We are a leading, customer-focused company committed to excellence.”
- “We repair and service air conditioners for homes and offices in Colombo and Gampaha, with same-day call-outs on weekdays.”
The second one tells a customer immediately whether you can help them. It also contains the words people actually type into search boxes, such as “air conditioner repair” and “Colombo”.
Then add the details that build trust
After the opening, use two or three short paragraphs to cover:
- Your main products or services. Be specific: brands you stock, the sizes of job you take on, or the areas you deliver to.
- Experience. How long you have been operating and anything that shows your track record, such as the number of projects completed or long-standing clients (only if you are happy to name them).
- How to work with you. Opening hours, whether customers should call ahead, minimum order quantities, payment methods and delivery options.
Avoid copying text from your website or another listing word for word. A description written for directory visitors reads better and is more useful to them.
Keep contact details complete and correct
Every contact option you add to your profile becomes a button customers can tap on their phone. Add a mobile number that has WhatsApp, an office landline if you have one, and an email address that someone checks every day, because enquiries sent from your profile go to that address. If a number changes, update your listing straight away from your dashboard.
Choose keywords the way customers think
Your listing has space for four keywords. Use the words customers would search for, not internal product codes. A printing business might use “business cards”, “banners”, “offset printing” and “wedding cards”. Include common alternative spellings or Sinhala and Tamil terms if your customers use them.
Add a clear logo
A square logo on a plain background is easiest to recognise at small sizes. Upload a PNG or JPG of at least 300 Ă— 300 pixels. Listings with a logo look more established in search results.
Link your website and social pages
Linking your website, Facebook page and other profiles lets customers check your history and recent work, which is one of the main things careful buyers look for. Only link pages that are active; an abandoned page with no posts for several years can do more harm than good.
Post offers and updates
From your dashboard you can publish offers and news. Good posts include a specific offer or piece of news, the dates it applies to, the price or discount, and how to claim it. Posts appear on the Offers & Updates page and link back to your profile.
Check your statistics
Your dashboard shows how many people viewed your profile and which buttons they used. If many people view your profile but few contact you, try improving the first lines of your description or adding a WhatsApp number. If you get lots of WhatsApp taps but few calls, make sure someone replies to WhatsApp messages quickly.
